Vargu was among the first choices for the Wearunique catalogue, not only because we love their products but most of all because we share their work vision: Be Unique, Recycle and Love. This is the Vargu style.
A Swiss design company, Vargu creates goods which combine style with sustainability: all products are made from used and recycled materials including motor bike seats, car interiors, sun awnings and plastic bags. If you need any more reasons to support them, they also champion fair trade and reinvest a portion of profits into a school for underprivileged kids in New Delhi.
Vargu production ensures that people are adequately compensated for the work that they do.
A "fair deal" includes paying workers a fair price for the goods they produce - a price that covers the cost of production, and guarantees a living income. It also involves a program that can provide lasting stability - such as long-term contracts for profits that the producer can rely on, and training, which can help increase sales, production, education, product quality and company growth. Vargu production is concerned with economic opportunity as well as economic justice.
These are Vargu guidelines:
  • Pay a fair wage, within the local context, to the artisan that crafted the product.
  • Provide employment without discrimination, and strive to create employment opportunities for women and the most disadvantaged communities.
  • Ensure that all artisans have access to a safe and clean work environment.
  • Guarantee that no child labour is used in production.
  • Increase economic stability by paying 50% up front to underwrite materials and production costs.
  • Follow environmentally sustainable production practices whenever possible: we select all kinds of used and recycled materials.
  • Reinvest a portion of profit to support a 50 kid slum-school in New Delhi.
